As I have listened and watched the election proceedings the last few months, I wonder what God would think of all the deception, backbiting and haggle over who is prepared to lead and who is not.

I wonder if He mournfully shakes His head and says, “I told them what to do. Why don’t they just follow my council and all would be well? I gave Moses a code of ethics thousands of years ago. If they would just obey my words, peace would reign in the land and across the world. Is there a leader somewhere on the face of the earth like Moses who is willing to counsel with me and ask my opinion? After all, I created the world and everything that is good upon the earth. Why don’t they just ask? If they aren’t going to ask, why don’t they just read? I have made the path to peace and happiness very clear.”

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. “Why would I give such a commandment? If men seek my face, and love me before all things, they will never get caught up in the temptations of Satan. He is real, you know. It is only the so-called enlightened generation that has made him a myth. That is one of his tactics, you know. If he is a myth, then there is no evil, and if there is no evil, man can get away with murder and never feel the sting of guilt. Sadly, Satan does exist, and he stands over the earth and shrieks with laughter at those who follow him. Someday, the truth will prevail and the enlightened generation will see and know that I am. No one will escape the truth.”

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. “This generation snickers at generations of the past, who knelt and worshipped the sun, or the moon as gods. The scholars look down their noses at those who made gods of stone and then expected those images to solve their problems. But, my children, how many of you kneel hourly before the river of filth that flows into your homes through the Internet and television? You drink deeply and think you are satisfied, but there is an insatiable emptiness that will never be filled until you turn to me and drink of the waters of life.”

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. “It may seem harsh to visit the sins of the fathers upon the children, but you see, that is a natural consequence of disobedience. Children walk in the footsteps of their fathers. If the father bows before the river of filth, so will his children. The children will reap the emptiness that was sown by the father. The children will not seek the true and living God, for the answers of life’s problems. They will wander aimlessly searching for peace in all the wrong places. Generations will pass, and none will know my name. Natural consequences don’t go away just because someone has lost the truth. Just look at the society sin has created in your world.”

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. “My ears never cease to burn at the profanity that fills the language of my people. They hear it and think that it is acceptable, but they don’t realize that the very lips that profane my name will one day cry for mercy. How can they cry unto me in the same name they have yelled when they have smashed their finger with a hammer or used to curse a neighbor’s folly? I am always ready to hear, but every time you profane my name, you build a wall between us. These very walls will keep you from feeling my love.”

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. “This commandment is the kindest one of all. Every day you labor banging your head against a proverbial wall trying to make ends meet. Every minute of every day is spent in the pursuit of your desires. You clean, you polish, you create, and you recreate. I ask for one day. On this day, I want you to rest and pursue my desires; visit the sick, read my words and go to church. Forget the daily grind. If you will do this, I will prosper your way. I will make your burdens light. If you don’t, the world’s treadmills will destroy your health, your ambition and your dreams.”

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. “The family is deteriorating in your society. Children disrespect their parents and thumb their noses at authority. The crimes among children and teens escalate daily. I weep because this wickedness is destroying the family of man. The family is vital to my plan of happiness. I created man a little lower than the angels and placed them in families so a mother and a father could teach and protect their children. If Satan can destroy the family, he can make men and women as low as the beasts of the field. They will no longer look up to their godlike natures. They will run around in herds thinking only of the next meal or sexual encounter.”

Thou shalt not kill. “Life is sacred and precious. Anyone who willfully takes the life of another, is taking something they cannot give back. The minutes, hours and days of a man’s life is preparation time to live eternally with me. If you steal that time away, you steal part of my heart, and you thwart my plan for that individual. I cannot look upon that sin with kindness. Many in your society think that because a woman carries an unborn child it is her right to take its life. My dear ones, make no mistake; to take a life of another human being is murder no matter how young or new that life may be. Life begins when an egg and a sperm meet. One of my children is waiting to take that body. I have a plan for my precious child. Please do not destroy my plan, or sorrow and misery will follow you all the days of your life.”

Thou shalt not commit adultery. “Your society blinks at this commandment and calls it by other names so that it doesn’t seem so bad. An affair is still the same as adultery. When you commit adultery, you break all of my commandments. How can you love God and steal another man’s wife? How can you destroy a home without being guilty of murdering children’s respect for their mother? How can you hide the adulterous encounters without bearing false witness, or lying? Remember just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t erase the truth. It is still wrong and will never be right no matter how many people believe it’s alright.”

Thou shalt not steal. “Stealing is not just walking into someone’s home and taking something that doesn’t belong to you. Stealing one’s good name by sending out a bit of untrue gossip is thievery of the worst kind. In the political scenes of your world, there are many good names that are soiled because someone twists the facts or outright fabricates a story out of circumstances. Stealing is stealing, and I cannot shield you from the natural consequences.”

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. “Like stealing, many think that because they don’t actually lie – they just shape the truth to their purposes – that they are honest. My children, any attempt to shape the truth is a deception. The truth is the truth and it cannot be altered.”

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s (Exodus 20:3-17). “My beloved sons and daughters, this final commandment is vital. If you do not covet, you will have no desire to break any of my other commandments. Search your heart, and prepare for my coming. Some day you will look back and say, ‘If I had known it was this close, I would have done some things differently.’”

I am sure the Lord speaks in more beautiful and eloquent language, but I don’t doubt that His sentiments are the same. When you vote this election, pray and ask the one who knows the end from the beginning. He will tell you who will lead this nation to greater freedom and who will bring it into bondage. PD
