November has gone again and with it a new flood of facial hair gracing dairymen’s faces across the country. Movember, an international men’s health initiative, encourages men to grow a moustache during the month of November to draw attention to and raise research money for men’s health issues, including testicular and prostate cancer as well as mental health issues.

Dairyman Will Gilmer of Gilmer Dairy in Sulligent, Alabama, recently finished a two-year term as a Face of Farming and Ranching. Gilmer, best known for his quirky tractor-seat shanties as seen on YouTube, was one of the first-ever representatives selected by the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance (USFRA) for its “Faces” program.

Unsurprisingly, most Progressive Cattleman online readers eat beef most days of the week. Besides, who’d want to eat chicken (or anything else) when there’s beef? But that wasn’t the poll question. This was: “How many days in the week do you eat beef?”

In 2014, cattle and beef prices advanced from (what were then) record levels at the beginning of the year to a nearly continuous series of record levels throughout the year. Cattle and beef prices are expected to maintain these levels in 2015, not increasing as much or as fast as in 2014 but averaging higher than 2014, and are likely to set new record prices seasonally during the year. For the most part, the same factors we have been watching in 2014 will determine how much higher cattle and beef prices will push in 2015.
