USDA seeks producer feedback on traceability rules

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service wants producers’ comments on its latest rules and regulations of livestock traceability. The newly proposed regulations are the most recent version of animal ID policies over a two-year period of public comment and analysis. Calling the new rules “a flexible approach” that works with states and tribes on ID systems, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in an August 9 statement that the proposed rule meets four tenets: Administration by states and local government, setting traceability for all livestock crossing state lines, endorsing low-cost technology and a transparent implementation of the law.

No new regulations on CDLs for farm vehicles

For the seventh year, a panel of World Ag Expo Top-10 judges will select 10 new products to highlight at the Expo, scheduled for Feb. 14-16. Each entry is evaluated by a panel of production agriculturalists (working farmers and ranchers), agricultural professionals and university representatives. The Top-10 are selected and announced at World Ag Expo, and the winning entries are showcased at the New Products Center.
