Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia reaffirms quota cap policy

At a Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia (DFNS) special members meeting Aug. 2, the 176 licensed producers present overwhelmingly passed a motion to reaffirm support of the quota cap policy and direct the board to rescind its decision to remove the cap. The motion passed 163 to two; only one person abstained.

NASS to resume milk production surveys in October

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will resume milk production quarterly producer surveys in the new federal fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1, 2013. NASS suspended the surveys in April of this year to meet the budget reductions required by sequestration.

Matanuska Creamery CEO charged with fraud

Karen B. Olson, former CEO of the now-defunct Matanuska Creamery, has been charged with lying to the USDA and trying to defraud the state of Alaska. A federal grand jury has handed down a six-count amendment with the charges, according to the Alaska Dispatch.
