With breeders now in 28 states, the American Black Hereford Association has become the nation’s fastest growing cattle breed. As a result, the need for additional space has been mounting at their office near Leavenworth, Kansas. Located in the sale barn facility of pioneer breeder, J&N Ranch, it had simply out grown the space available. Late this summer the association moved its  headquarters to Kansas City, Missouri.

Herd sizes drop in U.S. and Canada

On Aug. 22 USDA-NASS released the semi-annual United States and Canadian Cattle report, which reported July 1 cattle numbers by class for each country along with a combined number. The report can be accessed at: http://usda.mannlib.cornell.edu/usda/current/USCC/USCC-08-22-2011.pdf. It was not a surprise that cattle inventories in both countries continue to decline, because cow numbers in both countries have been declining for several years.
