American Farmers Network, a beef and bison processing plant formerly known as Intermountain Packing in Idaho Falls, abruptly closed its doors in early April.
Details surrounding the closure remain unclear, but a federal notice filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act confirms that 150 employees were laid off.
Intermountain Packing, which opened in November 2022, was built as a regional, midsized processing facility, strategically positioned along the I-15 Corridor, with capacity for up to 500 head of cattle and bison per day as a custom processor.
Since opening, the facility faced a series of challenges. About two years into business, the company was charged with a misdemeanor for public nuisance following numerous odor complaints, and in December 2024, the USDA filed a complaint alleging violations of the Packers and Stockyards Act after the company reportedly failed to pay more than $3.8 million for 2,884 head of livestock.
In 2025, Intermountain Packing was acquired by American Farmers Network, a Bellevue, Washington-based grass-fed beef supplier. The cause of the shutdown remains unknown at the time of writing.
