Cattle demand expected to be robust for the remainder of the year

The April World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report (WASDE) showed this month’s 2024-25 U.S. corn outlook is for greater exports, reduced feed and residual use, and smaller ending stocks. Feed and residual use is cut 25 million bushels to 5.8 billion based on disappearance during the December-February quarter as indicated in the March 31 Grain Stocks report.

2025 production forecast up on heavier expected weights

Total beef production outlook for 2025 is projected up 120 million pounds from last month’s forecast to 26.685 billion pounds. This is the result of heavier expected carcass weights in each quarter more than offsetting lower-than-expected overall cattle slaughter since last month.
