It’s June. I suppose, since I’m involved in the dairy industry, it should be the most fun month of the year. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve been known to throw candy at a parade or two, maybe participate in an ice cream social.
Mostly, though, I avoid it. I’ve been avoiding a lot of things lately. Turned off my Facebook for a day this week. That’s a big deal for me.
The 100K Pathogen Genome Project, based at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, announced another blow at foodborne diseases with the genome sequence of its first 10 infectious microorganisms, including strains of Salmonella and Listeria.
Padlock Ranch, recipient of the 2013 Leopold Conservation Award in Wyoming, was recently honored for voluntary achievement in conservation by Governor Matt Mead at the Wyoming Cattle Industry Convention & Trade Show in Cheyenne.
The $10,000 award, named for renowned conservationist Aldo Leopold, was presented to the ranch by Sand County Foundation, Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) and Peabody Energy.
Summer is here, and I’m excited! I do enjoy certain elements of winter, spring and fall, and I am glad that I live in a seasonal climate, but summer is by far my favourite time of year. It’s so nice to see everything alive and well after a long winter. The noises from the pond outside my office window have quieted down since spring, as well as the traffic from the nearby fertiliser plant. Now aside from the click-clack of my keyboard, all I can hear is the hum of a passing car and the birds chirping outside.
