University of Idaho is seeking applicants with dairy management experience to serve as director of operations and finance over a new Magic Valley research dairy, called the Idaho Center for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (Idaho CAFE).
Idaho CAFE, located in Rupert, should begin milking cows by early 2026 and should eventually boast a herd of more than 2,000 cows, making it the nation’s largest research dairy.
The position will entail oversight of overall dairy operations, including cows, feed, employees, equipment and monitoring of daily activities to ensure quality.
At least five years of experience managing a dairy of comparable or larger size, experience managing crop production and applying dairy byproducts, experience in managing staff and experience with operating heavy equipment are required. Candidates should also have an agricultural background or a bachelor’s degree in dairy science.
Research at the facility will focus on addressing complex issues pertaining to environmental sustainability.
Applications received by July 1 will receive first consideration. The salary for the position will be $100,000 or more, depending on experience.
