I am an agricultural services and development major, with an emphasis area in agricultural communications and a minor in Spanish. Q. What is your agricultural background? I grew up in a rural community in central Texas.

The emerging depiction of the current state of the dairy industry in the U.S. is becoming an ever-changing reality for large and small dairy farms across the country. The outcome is uncertain and tends to be rather intimidating to those who try to predict the future of our dairy industry.

Senior, Penn State University Intern at Nyman Brothers Dairy (milking 2,400 Jerseys) as part of the Hilmar Dairy Internship program Based in Hilmar, California Background Q. In what area are you pursuing a degree? I'm majoring in animal sciences. Q. What is your agricultural background? I'm from a 130-cow family dairy farm in Belleville, Pennsylvania. I'm also active in the Penn State Dairy Science Club and have participated in Dairy Challenge. Q. What previous internship positions have you held? I interned at Tuls Dairy in Nebraska during the summer of 2008, and I was a sales intern with Fort Dodge Animal Health last summer.

I'm majoring in animal science with a dairy production emphasis and philosophy. Q. What is your agricultural background? I did not grow up on a farm, but my extended family farms and my mother works for the Midwest Dairy Association.

Senior, University of Missouri – Columbia Intern with Animal Agricultural Alliance Based in Arlington, Virginia Background Q. In what area are you pursuing a degree? I am an animal science major and ag econ minor. Q. What is your agricultural background? I grew up actively involved in 4-H on a small hobby farm in Southern Maryland. My brother, sister and I showed hogs, cattle, sheep and goats. This is where my true passion for the livestock industry began.

Senior, University of Tennessee – Martin Intern with Animal Agricultural Alliance Based in Arlington, Virginia Background Q. In what area are you pursuing a degree? I am majoring in agriculture education. Q. What is your agricultural background? I grew up on a family farm in Northwest Tennessee where we raised cross bred beef cattle and mixed grass hay. I started showing Red Angus cattle at the age of 10 through the 4-H program.

Junior, University of Wisconsin – Madison Communications intern with Select Sires Based in Plain City, Ohio Background Q. In what area are you pursuing a degree? I am double majoring in Dairy Science with a business emphasis and Life Science Communications. Q. What is your agricultural background? I grew up in Spring Green, Wisconsin, on a dairy farm that has been in my father’s family for four generations, Branders Registered Holsteins. We moved to the home farm when I was nine years old, when my dad took over the farm, and I began showing cattle that summer.

I'm studying animal sciences with a minor in agribusiness management. Q. What is your agricultural background? I grew up on a small family dairy farm and currently own about 18 Brown Swiss with my younger sister that we show at state, local and national shows.

Junior, University of Wisconsin – River Falls Intern with the Red & White Dairy Cattle Assocation Based in Clinton, Wisconsin Background Q. In what area are you pursuing a degree? I’m majoring in Dairy Science with a double emphasis, a science and management emphasis. I also graduated from University Wisconsin-Marathon County with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2009.
