May 26, 2016
Paul Marchant

Irons in the fire: Springtime fences and reputations

April 28, 2016
Paul Marchant
Late spring, for many reasons, is always one of my favorite times of the year. I know I’m not alone in that regard. The prettiest landscape I can conjure in my mind can’t match the beauty of my home country in springtime.

Irons in the fire: A brighter and clearer picture

March 29, 2016
Paul Marchant
I have a favorite picture that’s hanging on my office wall. It was taken by my father-in-law in the summer of 1992. It’s a picture of me and my then-2-year-old daughter, Elise. I really don’t like to consider myself as part of an older generation of any sort. I’m afraid, though, the truth of the matter is: I fit into that demographic in several different categories. Being labeled in the older generation certainly beats the alternative to growing older, but it’s still not something I gladly concede.

Irons in the fire: Newt kabobs and misfortune

January 25, 2016

Old Man Winter hasn’t been shy about making his presence known in southern Idaho this year. It’s kind of my goal every winter to make it to Christmas before we have to do any serious feeding. We didn’t even make it through the first week of December this year.

Irons in the fire: ‘Viva Las Vegas’

December 31, 2015
Paul Marchant
In December, I was able to go to Las Vegas and experience the spectacle that is the National Finals Rodeo for the first time. My purpose was to attend the PRCA meetings and hopefully gain something that would help me, as a member of our county fair and rodeo board, assist in putting on a better production every August for the locals in south-central Idaho.

Irons in the fire: Nowhere but here

December 24, 2015
Paul Marchant
Three or four years ago, in an effort to keep up with the world and keep an eye on my kids, I took a bold leap and entered the modern world when I got my own Facebook page. It took some tutoring, and I had to endure a fair amount of ridicule and impatience from my kids, but I eventually learned my way around the rage of the social media world.
