Following a coordinated industry effort, a national system for collecting health events was implemented in 2007. Since that time, approximately 40 percent of all herds enrolled on milk recording are voluntarily recording the incidence of eight key diseases: mastitis, displaced abomasum, clinical ketosis, milk fever, retained placenta, metritis, cystic ovaries and lameness.
