After building a state-of-the-art blueberry processing facility, Breanne Stobbe made her husband, AJ, promise that they wouldn’t undertake another large project for at least one year. As fate would have it, the opportunity to purchase a cheese processing facility would arise one month after the ultimatum was given, and together, they couldn’t say no.

At Jer-Lindy Farms, crops are grown, cows are cared for and milk is produced, much like many dairy farms across the nation. In addition to the conventional way of dairying, the Jennissen and Sjostrom families also turn their milk into cheese at the on-farm Redhead Creamery and make whey-based spirits, all while telling their story through public and private on-farm gatherings.

In October 2024, an establishment in London suffered the devastating theft of £300,000 (about $380,000) of inventory. It’s a loss that’s going to be tough to come back from. However, it wasn’t precious jewels or priceless artwork. It was cheese.

From one of the most technologically advanced dairy farms in Ontario comes a new brand of cheese, produced by the Zeldenrijk family right on the farm at New Galma Dairy.

Throughout Canada, dairy farmers are producing their own cheeses, selling their bottled milk and making specialty dairy products fresh from their farm. Mistyglen and Creekside creameries are just two of those many farm families that have developed their own market.

For a little farm and dairy plant in Litchfield, Connecticut, it was a dream come true for their Gouda cheese named Europa to be named “Best in Show” at the 2023 U.S. Cheese Contest put on by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association.

“This was a worn-out dairy when I came 10 years ago,” says Eric Evans of Evans Dairy near Castleford. “It originally had a double-four parlor with grain feeder but was built for Holsteins.” Eric wanted to milk Jerseys, and the cow size difference required some remodeling anyway, so he remodeled the parlor to work as a double-nine.
