Just 307 out of slightly more than 3.5 million milk samples tested positive for animal drug residues in the FDA’s annual analysis. Those samples testing positive were rejected for human consumption. That works out to be only 1 out of every 11,659 samples.

On Dec. 4, the FDA conditionally approved Exzolt Cattle-CA1 (fluralener), a topical solution to prevent and treat infestations of New World screwworm (NWS) larvae and cattle fever tick. The drug is approved for use in beef cattle 2 months old and older and dairy heifers younger than 20 months.

A lot of producers still have questions about the efficacy of many feed additives, but these products could put extra dollars in your pocket when you market your cattle.

To support producers in the dairy industry’s commitment to antimicrobial stewardship, the FARM Program released its 2024-25 Milk & Dairy Beef Drug Residue Prevention Reference Manual.

The Innovative Feed Enhancement and Economic Development Act of 2023, better known as the Innovative FEED Act, was developed to create options for producers to buy and use products that may not exist on the market today.
