On Aug. 8, Agropur, Canada’s largest dairy cooperative, announced that it had completed the transaction to acquire the dairy processing assets of Davisco Foods International, a U.S.-based cheese and dairy ingredients company.

Dairy producers know that animal health is a critical component of their herd’s productivity and profitability. At the herd level, disease problems must be assessed not only for their severity in affected animals, but also for frequency of occurrence, costs of treatment, influence on production, relationship to culling and influence on death losses.

Proper moisture content may be the most important aspect to making good silage. Silage harvested too wet and immature reduces yield per acre. It can result in nutrient losses and environmental damage from seepage, and it often produces an inefficient, sour clostridial fermentation that reduces intake by livestock as well as experiences extra dry matter losses.
