Ranchers and farmers know what it’s like to work in the cold. Now is a chance for your hard work to be recognized in the third annual Cintas & Carhartt Cold Crew Contest. Cintas launched the campaign in 2011 to recognize individuals in the U.S. and Canada who withstand the toughest winter working conditions. This year’s theme is “Outwork Them All.” Contestants may share their stories and explain why Carhartt, a brand for hard-working people, is essential to their jobs at for their chance to win free merchandise and a grand prize, all-expenses paid trip for two (location yet to be announced).

Cool things we did at World Dairy Expo

The 2013 World Dairy Expo welcomed more than 70,000 people to Madison, Wisconsin. The Progressive Dairyman team was one of more than 840 companies that exhibited at the show. On the shavings, the Holstein Grand Champion Bonaccueil Maya Goldwyn, exhibited by Ty-D Holsteins, Drolet & Fils, Ferne Jacobs, A.&R. Boulet Inc. of Cap-Sante, Quebec, Canada, took home the Supreme Champion title.

These priorities, along with other important issues affecting cattlemen and women across the country, serve as the focus of NCBA’s policy team in Washington, D.C. This organization is producer-owned and member driven. It’s important that the policy priorities set by NCBA are geared toward sustaining this industry for future generations.

New Holland acquires naming rights to pavilion at World Dairy Expo site

has entered into an agreement with the Alliant Energy Center (AEC) in Madison, Wisconsin, to secure naming rights for a new livestock pavilion that will be built on the grounds beginning next year.

Construction of the New Holland Livestock Pavilion will begin in April 2014 with completion expected in September. When completed, the buildings will span more than 300,000 square feet and will be home to a variety of dairy and livestock animals housed during shows and expositions held on the AEC grounds.

Time to be thankful

Thanksgiving: A time when we gather with family and friends to give thanks for the many blessings we have in our lives.

I recently met one Ontario farm couple that has a lot to be thankful for this year. Even though they suffered a terrible fire on their dairy in July, in which more than 100 animals were lost, Clarence and Wendy Markus are thankful no person was hurt and the animals did not suffer long.

This fall, Dairy Farmers of Canada’s All You Need Is Cheese (AYNIC) campaign was revitalized with a brand new positioning: “Cheese. An Excellent Source of Pleasure.”

New messages were created around this positioning to create a meaningful association between cheese and pleasure in the minds of consumers.
