Name: Joe Macedo
Job title: Sales Manager – Southwest Region
Company: Alta Genetics
What education are you bringing with you to this position?
I earned a degree in agricultural and environmental economics from Oregon State University. That experience gave me a strong foundation in dairy production, market dynamics and the economic decisions that impact profitability on today’s dairies.
Please describe your agricultural background
I grew up on a third-generation dairy in Central California and was closely involved in daily operations from an early age. That hands-on background continues to shape how I approach challenges and opportunities in the industry.
What territory will you cover?
I cover California, Arizona and Nevada, supporting dairies with a wide range of management styles, herd sizes and production goals.
What are your new responsibilities?
I lead a team of sales representatives and technicians focused on delivering genetic solutions and improving on-farm efficiency. A key part of my role is supporting our team and building strong relationships with producers.
What previous positions have you held?
I served as an account management adviser at Southern California Edison, working with agricultural and government customers. Prior to that, I was the dairy manager at Macedo Brothers Dairy in Tipton, California.
Who has made the biggest impact on your career?
My family has had the biggest impact on my career. Being raised on a multigenerational dairy taught me the value of hard work, adaptability and long-term commitment to the industry.
How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise?
I’ve been in their shoes managing a dairy and have also worked outside the industry, which helps me bring practical ideas and a broader perspective to help improve efficiency and long-term success.
Why did you choose this company?
Alta Genetics stood out to me for its strong reputation and its people. I value the team’s commitment to building relationships and helping producers succeed over the long term.
What goals would you like to accomplish while in this position?
I want to grow our presence in the region, strengthen partnerships with producers and continue developing a team that delivers real value on the farm.
