New $1.5 billion fertilizer plant announced in North Dakota

Gov. Jack Dalrymple and Mayor Mike Brown have announced plans to build a new, world class nitrogen fertilizer plant near Grand Forks, North Dakota. The natural gas powered plant is projected to produce about 750,000 tons of fertilizer annually. The natural gas will be piped to the plant via a pipeline from a local source.

Participants sent the company a picture of an old calf puller being creatively discarded in return for a $25 rebate toward the purchase of a new Dr. Frank’s, Calf-Eze, or ratchet-style calf puller. But this year, the company has added a new category to the competition.

Sen. Schumer to introduce dairy grant pilot program as amendment to Farm Bill

New York Senator Charles E. Schumer has announced a plan to authorize a pilot program for a dairy block grant program that he says would aim to boost dairy farm profitability and efficiency, particularly on smaller farms. Schumer will offer the concept as an amendment to the Farm Bill that is now being considered on the House floor, after being passed in May by both the House and Senate ag committees.

Mixed market signals affecting cattle markets

Choice boxed beef, which capped wholesale values below $200 per hundredweight for more than a year, finally punched through the ceiling on May 2 and posted a strong May run culminating in record highs of $211.37 per cwt. on Thursday prior to Memorial Day.
