On the Edge of Common Sense: The cactus photo

It is a photo imbedded in my memory; partly cloudy blue skies, a nearby mountain range coursing diagonally across the background, a finger shadow on the lens, and the glimpse of a startled horse’s left eye in the bottom right hand corner! I was making a big circle one cold spring morning. I’d made it clear to the Canary Springs on the high end of the 7-section pasture. My horse picked up when I started back down over the ridges and smaller canyons. I passed a few cows, looked ‘em over then topped the last big rise. The view was magnificent. It was a cowboy moment to be appreciated.

Dairy farmer runs Boston Marathon

Marcia Itle of Loretto, Pennsylvania, has two loves -- agriculture and running. On April 19, she was able to combine the two, wearing a "BEEF... It's what's for dinner" jersey while completing her first Boston Marathon. Marcia is from a 200-cow dairy farm in Cambria County called Vale Wood Farms.

Select Sires Inc.'s Board of Directors has selected Johnny Daniel of Charlotte, Tennessee, to the position of Board chairman, succeeding Randy Kortus, Lynden, Washington. The Board also elected first vice chairman, Myron Czech of Little Falls, Minnesota, and second vice chairman, Dan Andreas, of Sugarcreek, Ohio. Select Sires Board of Directors met on March 24 and 25 in Plain City, Ohio, in conjunction with Select Sires' Annual Meeting.
