The XXV International Grassland Congress (IGC) will be held May 14-19, 2023, in Covington, Kentucky. The congress will gather forage and grassland scientists, students, extension, industry and producers from around the world to share their research results and their experiences.

Rock River Laboratory Inc. announced the opening of Rock River Laboratory – Texas, a licensed local associate laboratory. Based in Edmonson, Texas, the new lab will provide animal nutrition analysis and support services.

University of Vermont (UVM) Extension recently received a $68,438 grant from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to work with farmers interested in trying “solar corridors” in their corn silage fields.

Plants need nitrogen to grow and produce high-quality crops. How much will be required is difficult to predict with absolute certainty. What we do know is that the soil in crop fields can be a very important source of nitrogen for crop growth.

There are numerous approaches to manage nitrogen to fertilize crops. Many of the pros and cons were described and summarized in the 2018 Agronomy Journal publication “Strengths and Limitations of Nitrogen Rate Recommendations for Corn and Opportunities for Improvement.”

In 2021, the level of corn rootworm (CRW) resistance to the current Bt-RW corn varieties will increase another significant level with associated yield losses.

As spring slowly rolls across the U.S., forage producers are in various stages of readiness for a predictably hectic planting season, waiting for Mother Nature to give the green light.
