“I’ve had a long day” is a phrase that has always been associated with having a bad day. Long days tend to be the days that are full. They can be filled with physical labor, emotions or just busyness.

While we patiently wait for the 2024 hay season to begin, prices of 2023 hay are remaining low. Some producers are ready to take lower prices to make room, while others are banking on old contracts to help move hay.

How often do you feel unlucky? Are you someone who gleans luck from certain objects or a ritual? What is good luck and what is bad luck?

Looking over our calendars for the next few months, I see long lists of trade shows and meetings for producers across the country to take advantage of and participate in. It’s a busy time of year, and can be rejuvenating and overwhelming all at the same time.

Every January the first thing that comes to mind to fill this space is a message of prosperity for the new year.

Rolling into a new calendar year brings cooler temperatures and cooler prices for the hay market. With warmer temperatures across the north that have prolonged the grazing season and delayed the warmup of hay sales.

Every year, Christmas time seems to roll around a bit faster than the year prior. As a child, waiting for the elusive Dec. 25 seemed to stretch an eternity, whereas now the costly and busy holiday seems to come around faster than ever before.

The holidays are ahead, and the sleigh is full of hay. Despite drought conditions over the summer, most areas are seeing a slight surplus of hay with lots of attractive-looking lots being offered up for sale.
