Meet your Consumer: Jessie Potterton

June 7, 2012
Karen Lee

North American Manure Expo returns to Wisconsin on Aug. 22

May 29, 2012
Karen Lee
Celebrating its 10th year, the North American Manure Expo will focus on “Professional Manure Management” with a wide variety of presentations to occur throughout the day. The expo combines three attractions – technology demonstrations, educational events and trade show – into a one-day national event. From this request, the first show was born in August of 2001 near Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin.

Karen Lee
“Manure has been a problem on dairies from day one,” Wayne Raiche states. Attempts to move it, collect it, dry it, spread it, compost it, etc., have all amounted to expensive systems that require labor and maintenance. Raiche is the general manager of Loewen Welding & Manufacturing Ltd., a company that has been manufacturing manure-handling solutions in Matsqui, British Columbia, since it began in 1967. One of its more popular products is a manure vacuum for cleaning and transportation of liquid manure.

Time to open the barn doors

May 1, 2012
Karen Lee
The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the world is green again. Springtime is the perfect time to throw those barn doors open – but not just to make milking more pleasant. While attending a presentation analyzing society’s changing perception of agriculture, I heard a producer ask, “What are ways to engage the public?”
