February 24, 2016
Baxter Black

On the Edge of Common Sense: It’s the law

December 24, 2015
Baxter Black

On the Edge of Common Sense: Dean’s driving school

November 24, 2015
Baxter Black
Dean was in his 80s and still drove his pickup. This concerned his best friend, Jack, who questioned the wisdom of riding with him. October 23, 2015
Baxter Black

August 24, 2015
Baxter Black
Who said, “There is no such thing as a stupid question?” 1. Is that cow really angry with me for messing with her cute little calf, or is that just a defensive posture she assumes because it is expected of her?

July 24, 2015
Baxter Black
Pete was invited to put on a working stockdog demonstration at the agricultural fair in the nearby town of Perdue, Saskatchewan. He could have brought his own lambs that were “dog-wise,” but his hosts offered to furnish the sheep.

On the Edge of Common Sense: Three flat

June 24, 2015
Baxter Black
Now, everyone I ever knew that did much work with stock has spent some time in practice throwin’ houlihans at rocks. And be they real cowboys or pretenders with a hat, all dream of ropin’ just one steer in three-point-nothin’ flat.

On the Edge of Common Sense: A chance meeting

May 22, 2015
Baxter Black
I was at a Farm Bureau meeting and scheduled to be on their program. I stepped off the elevator and a dark-haired lady greeted me in the corridor. “Does anybody tell you that you look like Sam Elliot?” she said, “My husband just loves your stuff.
