The board of directors of the California Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) voted to change the organization’s name to DHIA West (DHIAW). The change happened on July 2. Continued growth, including additional states seeking affiliation with the group, prompted the change.

The association started in 1967 as a federation of state affiliates. DHIAW now will represent eight western states. Scott Taylor will continue to serve as general manager, with Alfred Duran serving as director of Quality Certification and Betty Crocker as office manager.

To reflect the name change, Taylor said, the organization also has a new logo.

DHIAW has a current enrollment of around 1.03 million cows and more than 3,930 goats. According to the USDA-AIPL, these numbers represent about 23.8 percent of cows on some sort of DHI program, and 25.6 percent of testing goats in the nation. PD
