Kathi Creamer remembers it like it was yesterday – the moment she knew she’d found her life’s calling. She was 9 years old, following her 4-H club as they made their rounds of the National Western Stock Show in Denver. 

Brown states that a person needs to earn the right to seek a mentor's knowledge – you can't just go to the head of the class – you earn your way there.

“The Commercial Dairy Heifer Show was the brainchild of Dr. Guthrie,” says Arch D. Smith, state 4-H leader and director of 4-H at the University of Georgia.

Emma Finch is a 21-year-old student at the University of Guelph studying crop and animal sciences. She, like many Ontario youth, is an accomplished showperson.

Standing ringside at a competitive cattle show is a type of high that has captivated so many in the registered dairy cattle industry. Watching your time, money and energy parade across the shavings, looking the best she ever has, gets your heart racing analyzing the judge's every move and nervously tapping your toe. 

For Jessica Oliver, this statement is made at least daily around the farm and anywhere she happens to be close to dairy cattle. As a lifelong member of the dairy community, Jessica is no stranger to hard work and preparing cows for shows across the country.
