Zoetis, Texas Tech University partner in Salmonella research

Zoetis Inc., formerly the animal health business unit of Pfizer, today announced a gift of $100,000 for Salmonella research to Texas Tech University, College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Department of Animal and Food Sciences. The research gift will help provide resources to better understand and describe the ecology of Salmonella in cattle populations and to discover and evaluate tools that might ultimately result in a safer food supply.

Bill would ease controlled substances law for veterinarians

Veterinarians who transport certain controlled substances to their clients to treat or euthanize animals on agricultural operations have technically been breaking the law. A new bipartisan bill seeks to amend the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) making it legal to transport these drugs to the sites where they are needed.

Horizon Organic launches single-serve boxes of its organic milk with DHA omega-3

The national brand Horizon Organic is launching single-serve milk boxes of one of its products, Organic Milk with 32 mg DHA Omega-3. The company states that the new boxes are shelf-stable, requiring no refrigeration, and "provide consumers with all of the same nutritious benefits of organic DHA omega-3 milk."
