The nation’s 100 largest agricultural cooperatives had record sales and income in 2011, according to the USDA's annual list.
The 100 largest ag co-ops reported revenue of $148 billion in 2011, an increase of almost 30 percent over 2010, when revenue totaled $113 billion. The previous top 100 co-op record was $130 billion for sales in 2008.

A century-old creamery in eastern Idaho is closing, ending a run stretching back to before World War I. The Rexburg Standard-Journal reports the Nelson-Ricks Creamery Co. closes its Rexburg facility on Oct. 13.

A group of scientists in Sweden found that lactoferricin4-14 (Lfcin4-14), a milk protein with known health effects, significantly reduces the growth rate of colon cancer cells over time.
