When it comes to improving pasture and rangeland health, ranch management consultant Dave Pratt says to stay away from agronomic principles and instead apply ecological principles to land management. At the recent Ranching For Profit School held Jan. 19-25 in Billings, Montana, Pratt and his associate Dallas Mount of the University of Wyoming discussed various methods to improve range health, among many other aspects of a ranch business.

Open Agriculture Data Alliance seeks farm data standardization

The Open Agriculture Data Alliance (OADA) – a group of Purdue University researchers and agricultural companies – recently announced an open source project aimed at standardizing “farm data formats and improve communication between farm equipment and farm management tools made by different companies,” according to a Reuters article by Karl Plume. The group also will seek to set standards on data privacy and security.
