Hawai‘i Fresh Milk Industry establishes CTAHR scholarship

The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) announced the establishment of the Hawai‘i Fresh Milk Industry Legacy Scholarship Endowment. The $35,000 scholarship gift from the Hawai‘i Fresh Milk Industry (HFMI) will support students pursuing studies in the animal sciences program with an interest in sustainable dairy or other livestock production in the Department of Human Nutrition, Food and Animal Sciences. “We are appreciative of the endowed scholarship,” said Sylvia Yuen, interim CTAHR dean. “It is an investment in the future – a legacy from the dairy industry that will help grow and diversify Hawai‘i’s economy. Many bright and deserving students will be the beneficiaries of this generous gift.”

ARM & HAMMER rumen buffers listed by OMRI for use in organic dairy rations

Two rumen buffers manufactured by Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition – ARM & HAMMER Feed Grade Sodium Bicarbonate and SQ-810 Natural Sodium Sesquicarbonate – have been listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production. OMRI is an independent agency that reviews and evaluates products for use under the USDA’s National Organic Program Rule in organic production and processing. ARM & HAMMER rumen buffers now join DCAD Plus Feed Grade Potassium Carbonate as OMRI listed ingredients offered by Arm & Hammer Animal Nutrition.

Animal Health International, Inc. announces final merger transaction

June 22, 2011
Lextron, Inc. and Animal Health International, Inc. (AHII), which also did business under the name “Walco,” announced the close of their transaction and completion of the merger. Lextron has acquired all of the outstanding common shares of AHII for $4.25 per share, or approximately $111 million, plus the repayment of AHII's outstanding indebtedness, for a total purchase price of approximately $251 million.

The acquisition of BOMAC New Zealand by Bayer (Germany) in 2010 initiated the transition of the 22-year-old animal health manufacturer back to its original name of Vets Plus, Inc., fresh with a new logo. This logo emphasizes Vets Plus, Inc., as a global leader in animal health not only with text, but also with graphics by maintaining the signature upside-down triangle with “Vets Plus” at the top, and an image of a globe at the point.

New York dairy welfare program gains PAACO certification

The New York State Cattle Health Assurance Program (NYSCHAP) animal welfare review program for dairy producers is the second of its kind to be granted certified program status by the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization, Inc. (PAACO). Earning the PAACO-certified distinction signifies that the New York dairy program has met or exceeded all of PAACO’s minimum standards from start to finish as a rigorous, comprehensive audit program and instrument.

Red Brand’s year-long ‘Home Grown’ initiative raises more than $100,000 for local FFA chapters

After successfully raising more than $100,000 in the first year of a new grass-roots campaign that provided funds to local FFA chapters throughout the country, the nation’s leading fence manufacturer has announced its decision to make this campaign an annual event. Early last year, Peoria, Illinois-based Keystone Steel and Wire Co., maker of Red Brand fence, launched its “Home Grown” initiative, a program to benefit FFA through its Red Brand agricultural fencing sales division. For every roll of Red Brand agricultural fencing purchased by a participating retailer, $1 is donated to a designated local FFA chapter or chapters of their choice.
