Ann Perry

National Hay Association's 2012 Haymaker of the Year

January 30, 2013
013013_haymaker_awardWhen you meet the 2012 recipient, you will be greeted with a smile and an outstretched hand. His life could have provided the lyrics to country singer Craig Morgan's popular "international Harvester" song. "Son of a third-generation farmer, married to the farmer's daughter, lifelong sponsor of the FFA, two sons in 4-H, God-fearing man, making a lot of hay for little pay and chugging along in the combine with cars lining up behind him in the urban area he lives in."

The farm he and his wife now own has been in the family for over 162 years. This family never kept their "eggs" in one basket. The farm has continually made changes as the next generation came along. Growing up, eggs and potatoes were king. After school, he collected eggs for 10 cents a basket.

January 24, 2013

012413_lablabThe value of lablab, an annual tropical legume, as potential quality forage has long been known, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be made a lot better, said a Texas A&M AgriLife Research plant breeder.
