Anderson Ranch Dam raise continues to move forward

Plans are underway to raise Anderson Ranch Dam by 6 feet to add an additional 29,000 acre-feet of storage to the system. This will be one step in securing water supplies for Idaho's growing Treasure Valley.

“As everyone knows the Treasure Valley is rapidly growing,” says Idaho Water Resource Board (IWRB) staff member Justin Ferguson. Based on a water demand survey completed in 2016 for the IWRB, the Treasure Valley is projected to increase in population to 1.57 million people by 2065, and with that increase comes an estimated need for an additional 81,000 acre-feet of water.

At the 2025 Idaho National FFA Organization Convention, Idaho Superintendent Debbie Critchfield announced that the legislature passed a measure allowing FFA projects to count as "future readiness" projects, replacing the traditional senior project requirement. After we got home, my friend texted me apologizing for the chaos – for the moments she thought she was yelling too much and for what she considered a messy house. Of course, I hadn’t noticed any of that and reassured her everything was just fine. What I didn’t have the words for at the time, and what I really wanted her to know, is that I actually appreciate the real and the raw. I’ve always felt a connection to her because she is, in fact, human.
