Two people and possibly more are dead after an explosion Monday morning at an animal feed processing plant in Omaha, Nebraska, according to news reports by the Associated Press and Maggie O'Brien in The Omaha World Herald (OWH).

The two confirmed deaths at International Nutrition were reported to the OWH by the office of Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine, who oversees the county coroner. The names of the two victims have not been released.

Interim Omaha Fire Chief Bernie Kanger did not specify the number of deaths in the explosion that happened Monday morning, but said 38 people were inside when the explosion occurred. Crews have stopped rescue efforts for a slower recovery effort to retrieve victims. At least 10 of the victims were retrieved and taken to hospitals, the AP reports; four were in critical condition.

The plant, which sits in an industrial area not far from Interstate 80, experienced structural damage at the top of the building. No residences are nearby and no other buildings were evacuated.

The cause of the blast is still under investigation. PD
