Together, Zoetis and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) will once again award scholarships to bovine veterinary students across the country. Applications are now being accepted for the 2014 AABP Foundation – Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarships.

To be considered for a 2014 scholarship, applicants must be students graduating with their veterinary degree in 2015 and enrolled in colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States. Eligible veterinary students can visit the AABP Foundation’s website for additional details and to access the online application form. Applications must be submitted via the AABP website by June 15, 2014. Membership in college chapters of AABP or food animal club is strongly encouraged.

Since 2009, the AABP Foundation – Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Fund has awarded a total of $460,000 to deserving bovine veterinary students. In 2013, 15 students each received $5,000 scholarships through the fund. For 2013 recipient Tom Cully, the scholarship helped his career by offsetting tuition costs and providing support for important veterinary externship experiences.

“These externship experiences, as a result of the scholarship, have prepared me for a long, successful career in the cattle industry and veterinary medicine,” saidCully, a Cornell University student who is pursuing a career in dairy production medicine. “I have a passion for agriculture and food production – the production of safe, affordable, abundant and nutritious food is something I am very proud to be able to support.”

The scholarship program is administered by the AABP Foundation with the assistance of the Amstutz Scholarship Committee. The 2014 scholarship recipients will be notified prior to the 2014 AABP Annual Conference, which is Sept. 18-20, 2014, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. To receive recognition, scholarship recipients will be encouraged to attend the AABP Annual Conference, with expenses paid, but attendance is not required to receive the scholarship.
