Making export sales remains a vital part of the U.S. dairy product marketing effort, perhaps even more so considering the impact the coronavirus is having on domestic dairy sales. Fortunately, Cooperatives Working Together’s (CWT) export assistance program is helping member cooperatives capture sales in world markets, continuing to benefit all dairy farmers and all dairy cooperatives in these difficult times.

CWT export assistance focuses its efforts on dairy products that positively impact producers’ milk checks: American-type cheeses, anhydrous milkfat, butter containing 82% butterfat, cream cheese and whole milk powder. All these products are moving the components of U.S. dairy farmer milk overseas.

CWT member cooperatives submitted 257 requests for export assistance during the first three months of 2020. CWT provided assistance on 171 of these requests, resulting in contracts to sell 8.9 million pounds of cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese, 1.3 million pounds of butter, 1.8 million pounds of cream cheese and 8.8 million pounds of whole milk powder.

In the challenging months ahead in 2020 and, perhaps beyond, America’s milk producers and their cooperatives can help themselves by investing in CWT. For more information go to Cooperative working together.  end mark
