FDA comments on ‘superbug’ claims

An early April article from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) on the findings of the FDA’s Retail Meat Report has led the FDA to make a new statement clarifying its findings. The FDA report is designed to track antibiotic resistant bacteria in meat products like beef, poultry and pork and is conducted in conjunction with the USDA and the Center for Disease Control and prevention.

The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) applaud the U.S’ decision to welcome Japan into Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade negotiations. "Japan greatly enhances the potential value of the TPP to U.S. dairy producers and processors,” says Jaime Castaneda, senior vice president for strategic initiatives and trade policy, USDEC and NMPF.

Click here for the full list of the Top 25. Last winter, JTP Farms in Dorchester, Wisconsin, set a new production record for the DeLaval VMS system. In a period of seven days, the dairy – owned by Tom and Peggy Peissig and Jake and Tolea Peissig – harvested an average of 6,453 pounds of milk per milking station from their 247-cow herd, equaling 104.5 pounds per day. Jake Peissig attributed this accomplishment to the farm’s focus on cow comfort and animal welfare in their new facility.

Another step taken toward a new Saratoga dairy

A judge has ruled in favor of a company that plans to build a large-scale dairy in Saratoga, Wisconsin. Wysocki Family of Cos. intends to construct the 5,300-animal, 7,000-acre Golden Sands Dairy but local leaders have opposed the plan for the concentrated animal feeding operation and refused to issue building permits for the project.
