Butter cow turns 90 years old at Illinois State Fair

An icon at the Illinois State Fair will celebrate her 90th birthday this year. Since 1922, the butter cow has graced the Dairy Building at the fair in Springfield. The unusual work of art draws in fair-goers to see her likeness sculpted in more than 600 pounds of butter. She’s come a long way since her first fair in the center cooler case of the Dairy Products Building, when visitors could only see half of the cow.

New Iowa Dairy Princess hails from Oelwein

Logan Worden, 19, of Oelwein was crowned the 59th Iowa Dairy Princess at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on the eve of the fair’s opening on Aug. 8. Worden, daughter of Dennis and Joan Worden, will use the title to make connections with consumers over the coming year, helping them to understand the dedication of dairy farm families as they take care of their cows and farms. Worden represented the state’s Brown Swiss breeders in the contest, in which she also was named winner of the presentation category.

More than 100 participants attended the 2012 Kentucky Indiana – also known as "Kentuckiana" – Dairy Exchange Program, hosted this year in Kentucky. The Kentucky farms toured included Kalmey Dairy Farm and Eddie Klingenfus farm, both in Shelbyville; Harvest Home Dairy in Crestwood; Davis Dairy in Brownsville; and LongView Dairy in Leitchfield.

The models are now available from distributors and will be arriving at selected dealers shortly. The new Teagle Tomahawk mid-range bale processors 8100, 8150, 8500, 8550 machines are capable of handling 6-by-4 foot/6-by-5 foot round bales and 4-by-4-by-8 foot square bales.

Schaefer Ventilation of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, is introducing a family of 54-inch belt drive galvanized panel fans for animal cooling. Schaefer’s 54-inch panel fan is available with 3- or 5-wing galvanized blades and 1, 1.5 and 2 HP single-or 3-phase motors. All but the 2 HP single-phase fan operates at both 60 Hz and 50 Hz.

Kustom Cooling Reversing Fan System automates the maintenance of OEM cooling packages

Kustom Cooling, LLC has released the 60 GPM Hydraulic Reversing Fan System, intended for applications that utilize a hydraulic motor to cool the radiator. The system eliminates the need to stop work in order to manually clean the cooling cores of equipment. The reversing fan system has been available in a 25 GPM system and successfully operating in various agricultural, forestry, refuse and construction applications for the past few years. The system is ideal for applications that have issues related to clogged radiators as a result of high amounts of airborne debris.
