Zoetis names winner of 2013 Cattle Call grant

Zoetis has selected Rodrigo Bicalho, DVM, PhD, assistant professor of dairy production medicine at Cornell University, as the recipient of the company’s 2013 Cattle Call grant. With the $150,000 grant, Bicalho will evaluate ways to prevent retained placenta and ultimately improve overall uterine health in cattle.

Two distinguished veterinarians – Don Williams and Elmer Woelffer – have been inducted into the Cattle Production Veterinarian Hall of Fame (CPVHOF). The honor recognizes their exceptional contributions to the practice of veterinary medicine in the beef and dairy cattle industry. CPVHOF was established in 2011 to recognize the rich traditions of production veterinary medicine and honor the distinguished individuals who have made lasting contributions to the profession.

Eric Grant is public relations director with the American Angus Association. This summer the American Angus Association announced new policies surrounding the genetic defect known as developmental duplication. The simple recessive defect, researched by Dr. Jon Beever from University of Illinois, had been shown to result in calves born with polymelia, or a calf with additional limbs.
