July beef exports move upward for 2012

U.S. pork exports in July were slightly lower than a year ago while beef exports dipped moderately in volume, achieving their largest monthly total of 2012 while holding steady in value. These results are based on statistics released by USDA and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF).

Livestock Publications Council elects new officers, directors

Kathy LaScala, Lee Publications, Eudora, Kansas, was elected to serve the Livestock Publications Council (LPC) as its president for 2012-2013. Elections were held during the Agricultural Media Summit at the LPC annual meeting held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This event is a joint convention of LPC, American Agricultural Editors’ Association and American Business Media Agri-Council.

Schaefer takes the helm at Minnesota Beef Council, Eustice retires

 After 22 years as executive director of the Minnesota Beef Council, Ron Eustice will retire in October. Eustice is best known for his work on food safety and irradiation. He has given irradiation education seminars in 10 countries and 30 states. Karin Schaefer will take on the role of executive director.

John Herrick, D.V.M., and Jim Jarrett, D.V.M., will be posthumously honored as inductees to the Cattle Production Veterinarian Hall of Fame at the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) 45th annual conference in Montreal. They will be recognized on Sept. 22 during the Hall of Fame banquet sponsored by Merck Animal Health.

Dr. William Kunkle inducted to Liquid Feed Hall of Fame

Dr. William Kunkle, Ph.D., was posthumously inducted into the American Feed Industry Association’s Liquid Feed Hall of Fame, the highest award offered by the AFIA Liquid Feed Committee and the liquid feed industry. The honor was presented today to Dr. Kunkle’s wife at the 2012 Liquid Feed Symposium Awards Luncheon in Denver, Colorado, by Patrick Whidden and Dr. Chet Fields. The Liquid Feed Symposium is the country’s largest gathering of liquid supplement leaders in manufacturing, nutrition, quality, sales and marketing.

Wyoming equestrian ranch sells for $10 million

Hall and Hall Auctions and Western United Realty of Laramie, Wyoming, have announced the sale of Snowy Range Ranch, one of the most impressive Wyoming ranches to hit the auction block in decades. Fifteen of the 17 available tracts sold for $10,006,580 on Aug. 23, 2012, with 48 registered bidders from four states participating in the sale. The tracts ranged from 25 to 7,624 acres.
