Kerry Estes did not grow up on a dairy farm, but in the early 2000s, that is exactly where life led him and his family. They bought a farm in Fountaintown, Indiana, milked their first cows in March 2005 and have continued to build the farm into what it is today over the past two decades. 

In the early 1900s, King Brothers Dairy in Schuylerville, New York, had on-farm processing, but ended in the 1960s due to stricter regulations for milk processing.

J Schanbacher has milked in his fair share of milking systems, but there is one design that has met all his expectations as a dairy producer.  

After 18 months of planning and preparation, Freshly Dairy began processing non-homogenized whole milk in two flavors – chocolate and traditional white milk – in August 2022 just west of Indianapolis in Lizton, Indiana.

The milking herd at NexGen Dairy is a mature group of cows who have proven themselves in milk production and in overall cow health. Achieving such a distinct herd begins with the calves and the farm’s protocols – starting at birth.

The secret to this dairy’s success lies in their communication with one another.

For a little farm and dairy plant in Litchfield, Connecticut, it was a dream come true for their Gouda cheese named Europa to be named “Best in Show” at the 2023 U.S. Cheese Contest put on by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association.
