Alice in Dairyland promotes all facets of Wisconsin agriculture, which happens to be an $88.3 billion industry. Teyanna Loether was recently chosen to be the 68th Alice in Dairyland, and she began her new role on June 1.

When Henk and Linda Sevenhuysen emigrated from the Netherlands 19 years ago, they had one thing on their minds. “We wanted to milk cows no matter what,” Henk says. “At the time, we didn’t really think about quotas or regulations. We just did it and adapted to whatever came across our path. I like to make my plans along the way.”

When Bobby Jacquier’s grandfather Robert Jacquier first established Laurelbrook Farm in 1948 in East Canaan, Connecticut, the area was an excellent place for a budding dairy farm. Over the years, however, the operation has not only faced the challenges of an expanding business but an expanding local population and increased regulations as well. To meet these challenges, the Jacquiers have taken a somewhat unusual route: compost.

Luke Minich, a fourth-generation dairy farmer from LaPorte, Indiana, didn’t always plan to return to the family farm. His family sold their dairy cattle, and after graduating from Purdue University, Minich worked as a grain merchandiser and futures broker in Indianapolis.

Jennifer Warner from New Holstein, Wisconsin, may have spent five years in the U.S. Air Force, but on her family farm is where she is most comfortable and can be found today. She isn’t afraid to drive a tractor alongside her male counterparts, either.
