Communication during peak times, like harvest, can have many volcanic events. As I write this, I reflect on Allan Vyhnalek's list of emotions that block negotiation and therefore plug up communication. 

Successful transition planning begins with a first and formal transition conversation, and how the first conversation goes often sets the stage for the entire process. Get off on a good foot, and the entire process is smoother.

Time is going by. As one generation ages on the farm, and the next generation seeks certainty in planning for their future and understanding the needs of the parents for their well-being. Emotions affect planning.

When you are planted in a remote rural area, or far away from city friends, you must be very intentional about creating a life that aligns with your values and goals.
