Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) unveiled its new organizational logo during a press conference held in Ottawa in November.

1. DFC announced a new research body and national strategy for dairy research DFC created a new governance body in 2016 called the Canadian Dairy Research Council (CDRC).

Dairy farmers have been dealing with mastitis for decades, and according to research, it’s one of the most costly diseases to the industry: about $4 million in losses each year, according to the Canadian Bovine Mastitis and Milk Quality Research Network.

Six short fact sheets are now available describing DFC’s investments in research, governance and the expected outcomes from farmers’ investments in research.

Responses collected from two surveys to farmers revealed that lameness and other hoof health issues were among some of the top animal health concerns. In the Dairy Research Cluster’s Have Your Say survey and campaign in 2015, farmers asked 23 questions associated to measures to improve hoof health.
