DeLaval, Maple-Ain Farms donate milking units to University of Guelph

DeLaval and Hugh Hunter, owner of Maple-Ain Farms, have partnered to donate six fully refurbished DeLaval DelPro MU480 milking units to the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus’ tie stall dairy teaching facility. “The students benefit tremendously from their hands-on experience working in our dairy barn, and this technology upgrade provided by DeLaval and Maple-Ain Farms will enhance their knowledge of caring for dairy cattle,” said Ken McEwan, interim director at Ridgetown Campus University of Guelph.

Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) President Wally Smith and Lely Canada General Manager Jerry Claessens presented the Dairy Farm Sustainability Award to Anita Grenier and Rock Simard, of Ferme M. Grenier et fils. This couple farms with their two sons Benoit and Alain in the Eastern Townships (Quebec). “Farms of all sizes and of various areas of our great country can make small, incremental improvements, which add up to a more sustainable industry,” said Smith.

Vi-COR and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research sheds new light on fighting sudden death in dairy cattle

April 9, 2012
Recent research published in BMC Research Notes (Baines et. al. 2011, 4:110) studied the effects of Celmanax Liquid on etiologic agents of Hemorrhagic Bowel Syndrome (HBS) in dairy cattle. This disease is also known as Jejunal Hemorrhagic Syndrome (JHS), acute hemorrhagic enteritis of the small intestine and bloody gut. It is characterized by large blood clots in the intestine that result in severe enlargement of the bowel, eventual blockage and sudden death.
