108,233 agricultural enthusiasts graced the grounds of the International Agri-Center in Tulare, California Feb. 14-16 for the 56th World Ag Expo.

Establishing a “culture of integrity and honesty” might be something you hear in a human resource meeting, not a parlor. But for Eagle Ridge Dairy, it’s a core concept in the barn and key to maintaining a somatic cell count of 80,000.

It’s not often you see a family-owned farm passed down through several generations. It’s less likely that it’s been in the same family for almost 200 years. It’s extremely rare to have the same genetics in that herd that existed 100 years ago.

A head-scratcher, isn’t it? Pronounced A-KOO-SHI, these red-hided Japanese cattle – nicknamed the “Emperor’s Breed” – were introduced to the U.S. beef industry in the early 1990s and have started inching their way into the dairy scene, starting with MoDak Dairy in Goodwin, South Dakota.

After I graduated high school, Instagram was the new social media app, so while I was in college I would make some posts about the farm, but after I graduated college is when I really started to get involved with sharing our farm story on both Instagram and Facebook.

Each February, agriculture producers around the U.S. gather in Tulare, California, for the World Ag Expo (WAE) to learn from one another and about the latest and greatest technologies in each respective industry.
