The town I was raised in had a large lake that was enjoyed by many for recreation. One summer, my brother decided to venture out onto the open water. He always enjoyed small-engine repair work and had acquired an old boat from our great uncle.

This month, literary lovers around the world remember a man who inspired reading in children one rhyme at a time. Theodor Seuss Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, passed away in 1991, but his beloved books continue to live on.

I was recently chatting about the dairy industry with someone who works in financing. She noticed I often referred to milk in the conversation but failed to mention other dairy products like yogurt, cheese and butter. “Aren’t those important too?” she asked.

I realize we just delivered our largest issue of the year to you as you are about to enter your busy fall harvest season. It’s going to be hard finding time to read, and you may not get through it all before the next issue comes in October, but I promise this one is worth taking the time to read, whether it is now or later.

I find it ironic the main themes for this issue – feed, forages and nutrition; dry and transition cows; and equipment, tools and implements – are coinciding with my life this week.

On June 1 – World Milk Day – attention is drawn to arguably the world’s most perfect food. Over the last few years, I’ve seen my social media feeds filled with posts about the holiday. Most of these come from dairy groups and dairy producers.
