In March, Dairy Farmers of Ontario Chairman Ralph Dietrich and Vice Chairman Murray Sherk traveled to Wisconsin at the invitation of Wisconsin Farmers Union President Darin Von Ruden. The Wisconsin group set up a handful of meetings across the state as a forum for farmers to gather and learn more about Canada’s supply management system from producers with firsthand experience.

That’s right, I’m a quitter. I always thought I’d be ashamed to admit that because I firmly believe in following through on commitments and finishing what I start, but I am actually pretty excited about being a quitter.

The older I get, the less comfortable I am to step out of my shell and try something new. A recent, unexpected experience proved to me that, as uncomfortable as it can be, I should continue to take some chances, as I will never know where they might lead.

A little over a year ago, I wrote about dairy producer Hank Wagner who says learning should never end. In addition, he suggests everyone take the time to read a bit every day.

Our beautiful cover illustration was commissioned from our own in-house designer, Corey Lewis. He lends his talents to this magazine on a regular basis, and this cover is a shining example of his vision and ability as an artist.

In early October, I was sitting in a meeting at World Dairy Expo with an organization our publication works closely with as partners in this great industry.

The other night, I attended a meeting at City Hall to discuss a plan to install a new LED sign at one of the main entrances to our town. 

One of the many things my mother has taught me in life was how to feed calves. I don’t recall how old I was at the time, but I do remember that when I offered, she was happy to show me how.
