At their annual meeting on March 10, the National Dairy Herd Information Association (DHIA) honored Richard “Dick” Sechrist, Mt. Vernon, Ohio, with the Outstanding Service Award. From 1975-1987, Sechrist served as the association’s first executive secretary.

Under his direction, Quality Certification Services Inc. (QCS) and DHIA Services were created. In 1969, he also helped to organize Ohio Ag Services Inc. and served as their general manager for a time.


On February 18, Tony DeGroot was awarded the first Betaseed Feed Beets Pioneer Award. DeGroot has been instrumental in spreading the word about feed beets and informing other growers of their value. His operation, DeGroot Dairy Farm, is located in the Central Valley area of California. He has been using Feed Beets in his dairy rations since 2000. PD
