• Clinton County youth Jessica Nash and Carmen Hicks were recognized as the highest point-getters in the junior division of this year’s Michigan Youth Dairy Days, an annual dairy youth activity held in conjunction with Michigan Dairy Expo.

• The Dairy Cares executive committee says it raised $104,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin at its third annual Dairy Cares Garden Party. The event substantially increased last year’s contributions due to generous sponsors and donors.

• The Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program (PDPP) has awarded its 2013 Dairy Science Scholarship to Rose Guerrette, a student at Delaware Valley College, and its 2013 Food Marketing Scholarship to Christine Toner, a student at Saint Joseph’s University.

The $1,500 scholarships are funded by Pennsylvania’s dairy farmers through dairy checkoff programs and offered to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the dairy science program at the college and the food marketing program at St. Joseph’s University.

• Michael and Jordan Noll of Croswell, Michigan, were selected as the state’s winning 2013 Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) Outstanding Young Dairy Cooperators. They represented MMPA’s District 8 and the Mid-Sanilac Local at the annual OYDC Conference.

Jeff and Chriss Carmichael of Reed City, Michigan, were selected as runners-up, representing MMPA’s District 5 and the Evart Local.

• Eight high school students and two college students are this year’s recipients of $2,000 Agriculture Education Scholarships, made possible by Foremost Farms USA Charitable Foundation.

They include Bridget Bouska, New Hampton, Iowa; Ethan Dado, Amery, Wisconsin; Grant Feldpausch, St. Johns, Michigan; Jessica Pralle, Humbird, Wisconsin; Clay Retzlaff, Elroy, Wisconsin; Tyler Simon, Farley, Iowa; Holly Voigts, Platteville, Wisconsin; Sarah Witt, Ontario, Wisconsin. College recipients are Nathaniel Nolden, Lodi, Wisconsin; and Amy Speich, Reedsburg, Wisconsin.

• Dr. Jud Heinrichs, professor of dairy science in Penn State’s Department of Animal Science, received the 2013 DeLaval Dairy Extension Award at the American Dairy Science Association annual meeting in Indianapolis.

The award is presented annually to an individual who has made a valuable contribution to the dairy industry through dairy extension.
