The farmer-funded National Dairy Council participates in every public process around the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), providing science-based evidence on dairy’s role in healthy dietary patterns.
The 2020-2025 DGA, announced in December, again include an affirmation of dairy’s important nutrition contributions. The DGA serve as the foundation of guidance for school meal programs, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). They account for a lot of dairy! In 2019, more than 10 billion pounds of milk, 683 million pounds of cheese and 662 million pounds of yogurt and other dairy foods moved through these food assistance programs.
