“Animal welfare” and “cow comfort” have become popular buzz words around the industry. In some instances, dairy producers have been depicted as people who care more about their bottom line than the animal welfare and cow comfort it takes to properly care for and manage animals.
Time and time again I’ve heard dairy producers defend their animal welfare practices by stating “I take good care of my cows so they will take good care of me.” The argument here is that proper animal welfare is good for a dairy producer’s bottom line.
Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) is the national policy, lobbying and promotional organization representing Canada’s farmers. DFC works to support sustainable dairy production; facilitate solutions to provincial/national challenges; provide credible research of dairy products on a national basis; and create innovative ways to grow the market.
